is offered by The University of Sydney Centre for Continuing Education  Building a business can be one of life’s key’s to happiness through self direction, self motivation and the capacity to determine your own success. “Successful Entrepreneurship – Building Fast Growing, Valuable Businesses” will be a dynamic workshop looking at the birth and growth paths of Australia’s fastest growing companies, and, by using collaborative discussion, will consider what you can learn from them in your own venture.

Content

  • Reviewing future trends across industries. Spotting and tracking opportunities using both technology and personal insight.
  • The challenges of buying or creating a business.
  • Creating the future – developing a strategy and a business plan.
  • The eight modern determinants of growth – The team, strategic flexibility, partnership & collaboration, acquisitions, scalability, creation of barriers, compelling need and maintaining the vision.
  • Managing the business – creating financial and IT systems that assist rather than impede growth.
  • Funding growth. Attracting outside investment to increase momentum.
  • Working with customers – marketing, customer service and retention.
  • The public listing, trade sale or exit strategy. Realising the benefits of your efforts.

Delivery

This course will be workshop style, interactive case study approach.

Outcomes

Upon completion of this workshop, it is expected participants will:

  1. Identify the key drivers of what makes a business grow rapidly.
  2. Strategise a favourable outcome for their own enterprise and create a business plan that drives those outcomes.
  3. Confidently negotiate with key stakeholders including employees, investors, suppliers, customers and the community.
  4. Understand the full range of collaborative initiatives that can be taken through strategic alliances that help grow a company without having limitless funding.
  5. Confidently request investing funding and bank facilities to finance growth.
  6. Appreciate why certain organisations can successfully list on the stock exchange or achieve a great return in a trade sale, while others don’t.

Suitable for

Business owners or previous management experience.

Before the course

Participants should currently be running their own business, or have previous management experience. Furthermore this business should have the capacity to grow through scalability, integration, distribution or franchising. Participants without the above experience should consider enrolling in Starting and Managing Your Own Business first.
